Something truly incredible is happening in the breathtaking mountains of the Himalayas. We at DMI are excited to share the news of a powerful Disciple Making Movement (DMM) Level 1 training that has recently taken place in the nation of Nepal. This training ignited a passion for evangelism and disciple-making among sixty-two pastors and young leaders from 45 different churches!
From January 29th to 31st, 2025, these dedicated individuals gathered, hungry to learn how to effectively share the Gospel. They learned to create discipleship groups that will multiply to 3rd and 4th generations. Organized by the Rophecca Network and the Banepa Municipality Christian Community in partnership with Disciple Makers Increase (DMI), this training was not just a conference – it was a launchpad for potential movements. These Nepali pastors and young leaders came together in unity creating a network that can work together and support one another in disciple-making.
Empowering Leaders for Kingdom Impact
Our onsite trainings are designed to take what the student has learned online and help them understand further in person. Practical action steps are taken throughout the onsite training. By being onsite, we can coach, build further relationships, and train the pastors and leaders more effectively than only training them online. These trainees were not just taking notes; they were being equipped to obey, to go, and to multiply. And the results? Astonishing!
God-sized goals for Disciple-making
By the end of the training, the pastors and leaders came together to form nine groups across various parts of the region where the training was held. These area based groups will help the leaders to focus on their particular area and disciple others to walk out the practical action steps in their communities. Each leader has a burning desire to see their communities transformed. They did not just dream big; they set a bold goal: to launch 176 new disciple-making groups in the next six months! And guess what? Ten groups are already up and running!
But it’s not just about numbers. These leaders are taking the Great Commission to heart. They have begun praying for their relatives, neighbors, friends, and acquaintances, writing down their names and intentionally seeking opportunities to share the love of Jesus. Three participants are already teaching these DMM principles to their church members. We get very excited when those we train begin to train others. That’s a big win!
Online Learning and Church-Wide Disciple-making
The impact of our training extends beyond the training room. One of the benefits of going to a location with our leaders, is that we can work with existing students and also recruit new students for the DMM course. Twelve participants, including pastors and young leaders, have enrolled in DMI’s online course, eager to deepen their knowledge and skills. Six have already logged in and started their journey! Others are anxiously waiting for the course to be translated in to Nepalese…something that is currently underway.
Even more exciting, five Nepal churches have declared this year the “Year of the Gospel,” committing to a church-wide evangelism campaign! These Nepali leaders are stepping out with boldness for their communities and their nation.
Testimonial from a Young Leader in Nepal
A young leader from the Newar people group has been learning disciple-making through DMI. The Newar people are strong in their culture, traditions, and history. According to the Joshua project, less than 1% of this people group have become Christian. This is the testimony of the young Newari leader. “I saw this training online, and it answered all my questions and satisfied my curiosity.” He added that he is thankful and wants to make this his way of ministry. The DMI partner in Nepal is following up with this young leader for support and prayer. He is coaching him through Discovery Bible Study methods. This brother is also leading his team members and has committed to sharing Jesus with at least to one person every week.
Staying Connected, Staying Empowered
We know that momentum is key. That’s why a WhatsApp group has been created for ongoing communication and encouragement among the participants. Regular follow-up calls and messages are keeping the Nepali leaders motivated and supported. DMI leaders are working on scheduling the Level 2 onsite training for Nepal. The next training will be an opportunity for those we trained to check in on one another and continue to support and pray for one another while getting further tools to help with disciple-making.
